Florida State University launches artificial intelligence initiative

Florida State University presents its new initiative AI@FSU, a comprehensive website designed to integrate artificial intelligence into various aspects of campus life. The initiative focuses on four key areas: teaching, learning, research and the campus experience.

The new website, ai.fsu.edu, provides students, faculty and staff with the latest AI tools, projects and news.

“At Florida State University, we are empowering our faculty, staff and students with the skills and knowledge necessary to work with the latest AI tools and technologies and use them to shape the future in a way that’s intuitive and meaningful for everyone,” said Jim Clark, provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs.

This initiative, spearheaded by Information Technology Services, the Office of Digital Learning and the Office of the Provost, aims to increase public exposure of the many innovative AI-related projects already underway at FSU campuses. This is critical in familiarizing communities with the emerging role of artificial intelligence in educational settings through announcements, student highlights and training opportunities.

By leveraging cutting-edge tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Adobe Firefly and Ruby Chatbot, FSU aims to inspire a culture of creative inspiration and technological advancement.

Faculty and staff on multiple campus committees are developing best practices, policies and guidelines to ensure FSU’s community has access to the latest AI technologies and is equipped to use AI effectively and ethically in the classroom and beyond. The guidelines provided by the site address issues such as plagiarism and fabrication with explanations on how they relate to FSU’s Academic Honor Policy.

“What has me most excited about AI is leveraging innovation in the way we teach,” said Paul F. Marty, associate vice provost for academic innovation. “On the one hand, academia can be slow to change and resistant to change, but on the other hand, what history has shown us is that academics are very good at adopting disruptive technologies over time and changing the way they teach to incorporate innovation.”

Offering new opportunities like generative AI focus groups to students, faculty and instructors places Florida State University at the forefront of shaping the future of artificial intelligence.
